This year’s challenge is using a solid complimentary color scheme using the color wheel as your guide.
Think of the letter Y. The color opposite the color you have chosen is the complimentary color which gives the most contrast. The 2 colors on both side of that contracting complementary are the split complimentary, the Y position.
All 3 colors must be in the composition. You can use tints or shades of those colors as well as white, grey or black for a back ground if desired.
The color wheel is a great tool for planning a project. Many know intuitively what colors we like together, but the color wheel is useful to control the end results and the more knowledge we have, the more successful we will be.
The internet has many excellent resources. You can even download some of them. Check our “color wheel split complementary” or vice versa. Also, lots of books available, some in our library.
One of our new members Jan O. suggested a book by Rachel Hauser, “The Quilters Field Guide to Color.” I also have lot of books you can borrow.
Quilts submitted can be any size, traditional or modern, Your Choice!!! Your Y color combination.
Entries will be due for display in the 2 large windows located in the CAC building the beginning of March 2022.
